Stories:
Getting to know Fr Mike Shea, C.Ss.R.

Fr. Mike was born and raised a farm boy in the small rural town of Armstrong, Wisconsin, USA. At the tender age of 14 he entered the minors' seminary, and in 1964 was ordained a Redemptorist Priest. Since 1966 Fr. Mike has lived and worked in Northeastern Thailand. He has preached and ministered to the native people of both Thailand and Laos. He has also built churches and a seminary, been a Novice Master, a pastor of many different parishes, and has accumulated many amazing stories.

In 1999, as he was finishing his duties as Novice Master, Fr. Mike began to minister to people suffering with HIV/AIDS. It was at this time that he started his first orphanage in Viengkhuk, and his work has multiplied ever since. As he continued his Outreach Programs, ministering to people in the surrounding communities, his one orphanage grew to 130 kids and 4 orphanages by the close of 2007. Meanwhile, Fr. Mike and his staff have continued to minister to the sick and poor in the community, along with running several craft/work projects for women and mothers with AIDS. With all of this going on, they welcome more children daily with open arms.

You'd need a great author to write the thick biography of Fr. Michael Shea. Today he runs three parishes, 5 orphanages and several outreach programs, ministers to the sick daily, and the list goes on and on. He's the busiest man in the world who always makes time for his afternoon naps.

Fr. Mike's hobbies include: turning kids upside down and tickling them, reading, giving hugs, lifting weights, visiting orphanages on his bicycle, delivering candy, and watching Monday Night Football games on Tuesday mornings in Thailand.
